According to C|Net news today Senator Ted Stevens is having second thoughts about the current DOPA related legislation, the Protecting Children in the 21st Century Act. It’s not clear from the C|Net Article what changes are in store. But, it does look like Stevens is talking about revisions and not completely backing away from the legislation.
Obviously, it’s definitely not time for librarians to back-off of educating people about the positive uses of social networking. There are still chances that DOPA like legislation will pass in the federal legislature and/or at the state level – several states currently have DOPA like legislation pending.
