Selection Committee Volunteer Deadline Come & Gone – Now What

Linda W Braun | YALSA Info. | Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

Yesterday was the deadline for submission of volunteer forms in order to be appointed to a YALSA selection committee.  As I’ve written before, over the past several weeks I’ve been watching as submitted forms were entered into a Google Doc and waiting (sometimes impatiently) until everything was set, so that the appointment process could start in earnest.

This afternoon that process did get started.  As I’d been getting ready over the past few weeks for what was to come, I’d  thought about the best way to organize myself so that I could successfully look at the forms, look at the committee spots available, and match things up.  Thank goodness, it looks like my pre-planning worked.

Just a little while ago I sent a first set of appointments to Letitia Smith, in the YALSA Office, who will take the information I sent her and start to send out letters of invitation.  If you receive one of the letters, make sure to read it carefully to guarantee that you can meet the requirements of the appointment. Then, send it back to Letitia, so the process can be finalized.

Remember, it is understandable that circumstances sometimes change and that it’s possible that you submitted a volunteer form originally for a selection committee, but now realize that it won’t work out. That’s OK. If you receive an invitation and it won’t work out just Letitia know you can’t accept. You can always submit a volunteer form again at some time in the future.

We hope that by the end of the month, and perhaps even sooner, we’ll have the appointment process completed for the selection committees.

Don’t forget that this is just one round of committee appointments. In the winter – after Midwinter Meeting – I will make appointments to YALSA’s process committees.  The deadline for volunteering for those committees has not yet passed. So, if you haven’t submitted a form for one of the process committees, and would like to volunteer, go ahead, submit.  You can find the volunteer form on the YALSA web site.
