2012 Coffee with the Candidates: What’s It All About

Posted for Franklin Escobedo member of the 2012 YALSA Nominating Committee

Every year at YALSA and ALA election time I find myself wondering who everyone is on the ballot. A lot of times the names sound familiar. Did I meet them at a session or a mixer? Have I a read an article or a blog post they published? Was it from a listserv or was it from one of my colleagues? If you’re heading to Dallas for the Midwinter Conference this is your chance to meet the candidates face-to-face at this year’s Coffee with the Candidates.

The Coffee with the Candidates is hosted by the YALSA Nominating Committee and is your opportunity to meet those running for YALSA governance positions. They are the nominees for President, Board and Councilor.

How does the Coffee with the Candidates work? Candidates for each position sit at a table, for example one table will have the two candidates running for President. Attendees will talk with the candidates moving from table to table in a speed networking style. That means you can spend about 15 minutes at each table asking questions and getting answers from those running for a YALSA governance position in 2012.

What better way to put a name and face together than by getting a chance to sit down with a cup of coffee and chat? This is a great way for you to find out what each candidate has to offer us as members, and a great way to let them know what we need from their leadership if elected.

When is the Coffee with the Candidates? Sunday, January 22, in the Dallas Convention Center Room C146, 11 AM to noon. Why not join us to meet the candidates running for the governance of YALSA!

Don’t worry if you can’t make it to Dallas, or if you’re unable to make it to the Coffee with the Candidates. Keep reading the blog, the Nominating Committee will be posting more interviews and podcasts with all of this year’s nominees! You’ll get a chance to meet, and learn more about, this year’s nominees for all the positions on the ballot right here on the YALSAblog.
