There is a buzz in this room. Mixed with cries of “Hello” and “long time no see,” is the whisper of titles and authors we hope to hear announced from the podium shortly.
This is my favorite time at Midwinter: the press conference that tells us all what books were deemed the best of 2006.
I am going to try to blog as the announcements are made for those of you who could not log in to the web cast. Stay tuned…
I am back because I just saw that the web cast is already full. So, sorry for those of you who got shut out. The chairs have gathered on the stage and we should be underway momentarily.
ALEX awards were announced first.

You’re a lifesaver. THANKS!
Woohoo! American Born Chinese won the Printz! This is so totally fabulous!
Teri – this is fantastic – I’m using your post in order to add the info. to the YALSA MySpace.
Teri, let me add my thanks for your blog, I couldn’t access the webcast again this year, you’re helping me keep up with the breaking news!
Is MOSES by Carole Boston Weatherford? JAZZ by Walter Dean Myers and Chris Myers?
Thanks.
Thanks, Terri!
I was logged onto the webcast but got kicked off and couldn’t get back on even though I tried for 30 minutes. You are a lifesaver. I’m so excited to know the winners, thanks to you.
Ditto Kat’s comment– I couldn’t get onto the webcast either, and you guys had it first. Yay for laptops!
So, question about something I just noticed: the Printz isn’t only American books, but the Newbery and Caldecott are. Any particular reason, or is it just because the awards were set up differently, and at different times? Or is it just because there are so many great Australians writing for teens? 🙂
Thanks ever so much. I shared the awards with my international literature class right after reading your blog. Also couldn’t get in to the webcast so really appreciated your bloging efforts!
