Have you ever thought about running for a YALSA Board position? Have you ever wondered what being on the YALSA Board is really like? If you answered “yes” to either of those questions, then the posts coming this week on this blog titled Life on the YALSA Board are perfect for you. Each day this week a different YALSA Board member will post about her experiences as a YALSA Board member. The schedule is:
- Monday, April 19, Sara Ryan on life as a Director on the YALSA Board
- Tuesday, April 20, Sarah Debraski on what it’s like to be President-Elect, President, and Immediate Past President
- Wednesday, April 21,Francisca Goldsmith on work as the YALSA Secretary
- Thursday, April 22, Mary Hastler on the job of Fiscal Officer
- Friday, April 23, a podcast roundtable about being on the YALSA Board
We think these posts, and podcast, will give YALSA members who are thinking about serving on the YALSA Board, the chance to learn more about what it takes and find out how to prepare for this valuable service. A leadership position on the YALSA Board can be incredibly fulfilling, but it’s a job that takes a specific set of skills, a sincere commitment to the job, and advanced planning prior to taking the leap.
The 2011 YALSA Nominating Committee is hard at work developing the slate for the 2011 YALSA elections. Nominating Committee members are talking with YALSA members about positions that are available. If you are interested in running for a YALSA Board position you can contact the Nominating Committee Chair, John Sexton.
Before deciding to run, if you would like to speak with one of the Board members posting this week, you should feel free to get in touch. Email links are provided in the schedule above.
Don’t forget that the 2010 ALA/YALSA elections are currently in full swing and you have until April 23 to cast your vote. Make sure your voice is heard by voting in the elections. You can learn more in a YALSA blog post from earlier this month.
