On Friday night, January 7, 2011 at the San Diego Midwinter Meeting, you have the opportunity to bid on several food and drink related items. Including:
Did you know that YALSA has an official drink? As of Midwinter 2011 the Association definitely does. It’s the YALSAtini and ingredients include Stoli Orange and white cranberry juice, but the full-list of ingredients won’t be unveiled until the Silent Auction when you’ll be able to taste YALSAtinis as well as bid on the YALSAtini Kit. The kit will include everything you need to make a YALSAtini including a shot glass, martini glasses, a gift certificate for the alcohol required, snacks to go along with the drink, and the YALSAtini recipe.
- Wine, fondue mix, wine glass charms, a cheese gift certificate, wine glasses, a corkscrew, a cheese slicer, and more are all a part of the Wine and Cheese Basket available at the Auction and donated by the YALSA Board of Directors. Maybe you want to bid on and win the basket to share all or some of the contents with friends and colleagues after a long day of meetings at Midwinter. Or, maybe you can bring the basket home in order to celebrate with friends or family your return from San Diego.
Don’t forget you can see all of the items that will be up for bid at YALSA’s Not So Silent Auction on the YALSA Midwinter Wiki Not So Silent Auction signup page.
I am not sure what message the organizers of this auction are trying to send, but it seems to be more adult than young adult oriented.
What a fun idea! And since the YA librarians are certainly all adults, there shouldn’t be any concerns with this auction. I doubt the intent is for YA librarians to make cocktails for their patrons.
Not to worry, the Not So Silent Auction being held in San Diego at ALA’s Midwinter is intended only for the adult attendees and certainly not for any teens. The YALSAtini, which is just one part of a basket of goodies that will be auctioned off, is characterized by its orange and blue colors, which match those of YALSA. Though a fund-raiser for YALSA, the Not So Silent Auction is meant to also be a fun, social event on the opening night of Midwinter.
The YALSAtini is intended only for those teen librarians who might need a little pick-me-up after a day of intensive programming for their teen library users. And obviously, if one doesn’t care for the YALSAtini, one wouldn’t bid on that basket.
