Think fast. What’s the last thing you’ve purchased online? It’s probably easy to come up with an answer, because it’s something many of us do quite often. You quickly fill out a convenient form, and something appears on your doorstep, practically’ the next day.’ YALSA’s new Opt-in Opportunities form is not exactly like unwrapping a new pair of warm slippers, but it’s close.

Many teen-serving staff, new to that role or new to YALSA, want to know how to get more involved with the profession on a larger scale. Some might be hesitant, understandably, because our plates are pretty full already. Fortunately there are so many options for being involved that can take place without planes and trains (i.e. attending conferences in person) but fulfill your need to contribute to the larger profession.

In regard to the Opt-in Opportunities form, YALSA’s President, Shannon Peterson shares, “What I really love about this is that it shows the myriad of ways that members can be tapped into YALSA. So whether they aren’t ready for their first committee, they’ve done years of the committee circuit, are unable to attend conference or whatever the case might be, there are many other exciting and valid ways to build community and contribute.”

Here are some of the great options available to select from:

  • Peer-to-peer connections
  • Training
  • Local Activities
  • Writing

Do these options sound like something you’re curious to find out more about, especially if they came in an attractive package delivered right to your doorstep? Now you can! Visit the form here: YALSA Opt-in Opportunities

As Shannon reminds us, “So much of what you get out of association membership is what you put into it!”
