As you read the Teen Services Competencies for Library Staff you may think to yourself, there are some things that I want to learn. Or, there are some areas that I want to get better at. One way to get started with that learning is with YALSA’s Snack Breaks. These videos, published monthly, are between 3 and 15 minutes long (well there might be a couple that are a bit longer) and cover a range of topics related to the new Competencies. Check out the Snack Break on Restorative Approaches to Behavior Management in Libraries.
That one Snack Break covers a range of topics you might want to learn about related to the Competencies -from Equity of Access, to Cultural Competence and Responsiveness, to Interactions with Teens, to Teen Growth and Development.
To help you find Snack Breaks that connect to the areas you want to learn more about, YALSA created Snack Break playlists related to each competency category. Check them out:
- Teen Growth and Development
- Interactions with Teens
- Learning Environments
- Learning Experiences
- Youth Engagement and Leadership
- Community and Family Engagement
- Cultural Competence and Responsiveness
- Outcomes and Assessment
- Continuous Learning
As new Snack Breaks are added we will continue to add them to the appropriate Snack Break playlists. And, if you want to view all of the Snack Breaks there’s a playlist for that too.
