The Teen Services Competencies for Library Staff is a resource that can be used in teaching and learning. It also gives library staff the chance to reflect on their skills, knowledge, and practices. That’s why YALSA developed a Ready-to-Go slide deck that anyone can use when facilitating learning related to the new Competencies document. The slide deck includes:
- Speaker notes that provide context for the Competencies. They can be used as is, paraphrased, and/or to fill in details about the competencies that facilitators might be be aware of.
- Interactive activities to facilitate with participants in learning sessions that focus on the Competencies. These include a suggested icebreaker and discussion points for bringing the Competencies into one’s own practice.
- Self-reflection questions and a template for taking notes on one’s own knowledge and skills related to the Competencies.
- Links to resources and handouts to include as a part of a Competency focused learning session.
Anyone that is integrating training related to the Teen Services Competencies for Library Staff into their work is welcome to use this slide deck. You can use it as a jumping off point, in its entirety, or as inspiration for a training session.
